German troops crossed the Danish border during the night and have landed at various places. The Danish Government has, under protest, decided to arrange the affairs of the country under the occupation which has taken place, and has accordingly issued the following proclamation:
The German troops now present in the country are entering into contact with the Danish Government, and it is the duty of the population to refrain from any resistance against these troops. The Danish Government will endeavour to protect the Danish people and our country against the dangers resulting from the conditions of war, and therefore calls upon the population to maintain a calm and composed attitude towards the circumstances which have now arisen. Peace and order must prevail throughout the country, and loyal conduct must be shown towards all who exercise authority.
Copenhagen, 9 April 1940.
